Amputation Injury Attorney
An amputation is a surgery to remove part or all of a limb or an extremity. It can include a finger, hand, arm, toe, foot or leg. Reasons for amputations include infection and poor circulation when there are not adequate amounts of blood flow to the limb or extremity. Amputation may be considered to minimize infection as the affected tissue dies off. Amputation may also be a consideration if there are neuromas, infection and severe burns or injuries too severe to repair. These can occur with vehicle accidents, crush injuries, fires and explosions. Treatment may include removing diseased and dead tissue as well as crushed bone, smoothing out bone fragments, sealing off blood vessels and nerves, and then reshaping the muscles in the stump to prepare the person for a potential prosthesis after the site has healed. Injuries of this magnitude may result in a permanent or partial disability for the person.
