Accident Contusions and Edema Trauma

Another name for a bruise is a contusion. These contusions occur when the blood vessels are broken or damaged because of an impact to your skin, such as bumping into something or being hit by something. When injured, the area can begin to swell, i.e. edema. Edema is a type of swelling that is caused when there is excess fluid trapped within your body tissues. Even though it can affect anywhere on your body, it commonly occurs in the arms, hands, legs, feet and ankles.  Head contusions often occur when in an automobile accident or in a slip and fall accident. Anytime an individual strikes their head against something with some force, there is a chance that they are going to end up with a severe contusion. Depending on how severe the contusion is, there is also a chance that you could end up with edema or swelling.  There is also the chance of suffering from a pulmonary contusion because of blunt force to the chest cavity. These injuries are often so severe that the individual requires mechanical ventilation to survive and ultimately recover. Regardless of how mild or severe the contusion was, you can turn to a personal injury attorney to help walk you through how to get the compensation you deserve.   If you’re injuries were due to someone else’s negligence or wrongdoing, please call Michael Manoussos & Co PLLC, a New York premier personal injury law firm, for a free consultation.
