Insurance Myths

Throughout history, there has always been a division and struggle between the powerful and the weak, the rich and the poor, etc.  A David and Goliath parable, if you will.  It’s those with money and power who control.Insurance Myths 2

The same applies in our civil justice system.  It’s the big businesses and insurance companies versus the consumers, the workers and the accident victims.  Big businesses and insurance companies are too powerful and too rich, and have vast resources to lobby law-makers and launch public propaganda campaigns to advance their special interests and agenda on state-wide and federal levels.  The problem is that they promulgate myths, misinformation and unsubstantiated claims.

The Center for Justice and Democracy, committed in its tradition to truth-finding, justice and democracy for all, has published scholarly articles and reports that refute these myths and propaganda that the insurance industry, commerce organizations and big businesses have shamelessly perpetrated upon the American public.

For instance:

“Through advertising and propagation of incomplete or distorted information, interest groups such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Medical Association obscure the status of both the legal system and primary actors’ behavior.”

“Lawsuits and the “tort” system are important for several reasons: they help compensate those injured by corporate or professional recklessness; they protect us all by supplying financial incentives to keep corporations from running completely amuck; and they provide a forum where evidence of misconduct can be forced out into the open.”

“Our findings once again show that the ‘tort reform’ remedies pushed by the insurance industry have been colossal failures. There is no correlation between enactment of tort limits and insurance rates”
